So many people ask- who is Sam Howard? Without further ado, we are pleased to introduce to you Samuel File and Howard White. Sam and Howard both grew up at the beginning of the 20th century, were southern gentleman with a love for family, friends, cigars, good bourbon and most importantly- fashion. Although Sam and Howard’s paths never crossed in their lifetime on Earth, they created a legacy of hard work and a love for quality and value. Additionally, both men instilled a love for family that could not be shaken. Howard's grandson, Don White, from Tennessee, moved to Greensboro, North Carolina for work in 1998. In 2002, Sam File’s granddaughter, Margaret Overcash, moved to Greensboro for graduate school. Don and Margaret met soon after and the rest is history.
Fast forward into 18 years of marriage for Don and Margaret, and they both have a love for retail. Margaret has been the owner of North Carolina's popular children's boutique, Polliwogs for 6 years. Margaret and Don, along with their three children: Eloise, Tripp and Harriet, would occasionally toss around the idea of opening a men's store. Margaret had always thought it was unfortunate that Don had to shop for his clothes outside of Greensboro and once their son, Tripp, started to outgrow children's clothes, she realized what a struggle shopping for men in Greensboro was. When the retail space next to Polliwogs became available, Margaret knew it was time to act! Sam Howard Men's Clothier was born!
